Morrison’s Clacton-On-Sea Supermarket
A large-scale commercial solar PV installation at Morrison’s Clacton-On-Sea Supermarket, delivering over 600 kWdc of clean energy capacity. The system significantly reduces electricity costs and carbon emissions while supporting sustainable retail operations through a non-penetrative flat roof solar solution.
This project at Morrison’s Clacton-On-Sea Supermarket represents a large-scale commercial solar PV installation designed and delivered by SolarTech-UK Ltd. Installed on a flat commercial rooftop, the system utilises a ballasted mounting structure, ensuring zero roof penetration while maintaining structural integrity and long-term durability.
With a total installed capacity of 600.3 kWdc, the system comprises over 1,300 high-efficiency Longi 450W modules, configured across multiple roof zones to maximise solar exposure and energy generation. The layout has been engineered to optimise row spacing, minimise shading losses, and maintain safe access walkways for ongoing maintenance.
The installation process followed a structured EPC methodology, including roof preparation, mounting system deployment, ballast placement based on wind load calculations, and phased panel installation. The ballast system was carefully designed with variable weight distribution to ensure compliance with UK structural standards, particularly in edge zones exposed to higher wind uplift.
From a performance perspective, the system is expected to generate approximately 540,000 to 630,000 kWh annually, significantly offsetting the supermarket’s daytime electricity demand. This aligns well with the operational load profile of retail environments, where energy consumption peaks during daylight hours.
Environmentally, the installation delivers an estimated 140 tonnes of CO₂ savings per year, contributing to Morrison’s broader sustainability and ESG targets. Over the system’s lifetime, this represents a substantial reduction in carbon footprint and supports the transition toward renewable energy in the UK retail sector.
This project demonstrates SolarTech’s capability to deliver large-scale commercial rooftop solar systems, combining engineering precision, structural compliance, and high-quality installation practices to create long-term value for commercial clients.
